“A DVR is a driver’s best friend” – so you can say, to paraphrase a well-known saying. These devices have proven their worth and have become very popular with motorists. Manufacturers staged a real race to create video surveillance systems. Xiaomi could not stand aside and, together with a subsidiary sub-brand, released Xiaomi Mijia Car Driving Recorder Camera (alternatively called Mi Dashcam) in 2017. The budget device does not shine with functionality, but the light-sensitive camera is able to take high-quality shots even in low light. There is a face unlock option.
Characteristics
Despite the budget price tag, Xiaomi Mijia Car DVR boasts a good camera with a matrix from Sony, HD shooting resolution and loop recording. For comparison, devices with similar characteristics Mio MiVue C333 and Dunobil Zoom are 2 times more expensive. In addition, the Xiaomi DVR is distinguished by the quality of workmanship and compatibility with various applications.
Equipment
The Mijia Car DVR compact car surveillance camera comes in a modest white cardboard box. On the cover is an image of the device, on the back is the output with the global firmware code QDJ4014GL. Inside, on the lodgment, the hero of the occasion was placed. By the way, the cardboard shows a cable laying diagram – convenient.

Appearance and fastening
The body of the Xiaomi Mijia Car DVR recorder is rectangular in shape with rounded corners, made of black, matte plastic. On the front, there is a camera lens, a status LED, and the Mijia logo in the form of a shield. On the top panel, there is a cradle for fastening, a micro-USB connector, a round power button. On the left side, there is a slot for a memory card. Behind – the screen and four touch buttons. On the base, there is a plaque with output data, speaker, and microphone holes.
Fastening is carried out using a swivel bracket with a suction cup. Patented electrostatic stickers are used to ensure the most reliable fixation. Thanks to this, shaking and vibration do not move the device, and when struck, it remains in place. Transparent stickers are not afraid of large temperature changes.
Display and Camera
Almost the entire rear panel is occupied by a 3″ TFT display with a resolution of 426×240 pixels. Natural color reproduction, decent brightness, and contrast, as well as fast response, allow you to transmit a high-quality image in real-time. The screen does not fade in sunlight and does not darken when changing the viewing angle.
Xiaomi Mijia Car DVR action camera is equipped with Sony IMX323 CMOS 1/2.9” sensor. 40.7mm f/1.8 wide-angle lens with 160° coverage. Each of the six lenses has a nine-layer coating for better light transmission. As a result, the resulting image is as detailed and illuminated as possible. Video recording is carried out with a resolution of 1920×1080 (30 frames per second), 720p (60 fps). Recording is cyclic, that is, new frames are superimposed on old ones. The data is created in H.264 format, which is available for viewing on a smartphone, tablet, computer.
Filling
Mi Dashcam is based on the MSC8328P chipset. The Mstar graphics editor with HD resolution support is responsible for the quality of the frames. The integrated Wi-Fi module allows you to transfer data directly to your mobile device. Information from the sensors is instantly analyzed, and the camera quickly captures what is happening at the time of the impact or unauthorized movement.
Control and application
For control, the smart recorder is equipped with four touch buttons under the display on the rear panel. Provides for the use of voice commands. Advanced setup of the DVR is done using applications.
