The adjustment bar is made of metal, which helps to strengthen the durability of the helmet. Some competitors use an all-plastic design. The plastic used in the H840 isn’t premium, but the competition uses similar materials. The design remains strong and will not break with the slightest impact.
Features and design
Earmuffs rotate 90 degrees outward, can be laid flat. Convenient when you wear the helmet around your neck. For further compactness it would have been necessary for the hinges to be able to fold down, this would have allowed the earcups to fold inwards, saving space when transporting.
There are two really bad things about the edifier h840 headset, the connection cable ends in a straight 3.5mm plug, an angled plug would be preferable, but that’s not the problem. The cable cannot be removed! It is connected to each earphone, although it is of normal quality, if the cable wears out over time and cuts, all you have to do is throw the helmet in the trash. This immovable cable design is pretty outdated. And to add to that the cable, it’s 2 meters long. Not a problem if you use it at work (stationary use), but it’s too long for outdoor use (nomadic).
The earpads and headband are padded and covered with artificial leather. The bow stretches far enough to fit all head shapes. The ear cups are flexible and rest on your ears. Serve the right amount, the pressure is not excessive. Once in your head, everything is clear, you can listen to your music without disturbance. On the other hand, if you use it in hot weather, you will feel a warming effect in your ears more quickly.
Audio performance and quality
There is almost no sound leakage when using Edifier H840 earphones, the music will not disturb people around you. On the other hand, the sound insulation is not the most efficient, outside noise is very little attenuated when you listen to your music. It is quite rare to find low-end headphones equipped with powerful noise cancellations. You can’t have everything for this price.
On the sound side, don’t expect miracles, this is not a headphone dedicated to audiophiles. 40mm drivers deliver sound that gives bass pride of place. It is perfectly suited for EDM music or other electronic music. But for other musical genres, the instruments are not detailed enough, the soundstage is narrow. It’s hard to get good instrument separation with low-end headphones.
The market for low-end headphones offers literally thousands of references. And for several years, Chinese brands have been trying to gain market share in the field of headphones. The Edificar brand adds the H840 helmet to this long list of possible options, unfortunately without standing out from the competition.
