Responsible for playback is a 40 mm dynamic driver. The emitter is far from new for me, the overall presentation, and the sound quality is at the level of the previously reviewed ” OneOdio A30 “. Both models sound the same, but there were some noticeable differences in the noise-canceling mode. The SuperEQ sub-brand is directly related to OneOdio. This brand sells noise-canceling headphones that are aimed at a younger audience.
Features SuperEQ S1
The SuperEQ S1 comes in a small cardboard box. I did not like the packaging, the box was wrapped in one layer of bubble wrap. This is not enough, as dents appeared on the box. Appropriate design: colorful, bright, youthful. The manufacturer decided not to disclose information about the Bluetooth chip used.
Equipment
- SuperEQ S1.
- Cable 3.5mm – 3.5mm.
- Thin bag for transportation.
- Airplane adapter.
- Cable for recharging the battery (Micro USB – USB).
- Documentation (manual / warranty card).
The package includes a branded case made of soft and thin material (artificial leather). The quality of the cover is not bad, I did not see any threads or holes. There is a tiny USB-Micro USB cable. A metal holder is also included as a gift. I had complaints about this holder, but I didn’t really understand the mount. In fact, the holder is not bad, you just need to correctly connect the handset to the stand, turn it clockwise until it stops.
The structure is completely enclosed. The assembly is excellent, I was pleased with the force of pressing the cups to the head. Even passive soundproofing is at the level, what can we say about active soundproofing. The cups are foldable, the headphones will fit into a small backpack or a small handbag. Unfortunately, the cups do not rotate 90 degrees, they only fold into the headband. The matte plastic finish is quite durable.
All controls are located on the right cup. What is generally present on the right:
- Micro USB connector.
- Light-emitting diode. Glows red or white, depending on the situation.
- Mode switch button (ANC/Ambient).
- Plastic buttons +, -, power (on / off).
- Connector for connecting wire 3.5 mm.
- Microphones (on each cup).
- Management is standard and familiar. By briefly pressing the + or – button, we adjust the volume. By holding + – we can switch tracks (next or previous). The central key is responsible for play and pause, and also allows you to turn off the headphones. Double-clicking calls up the voice assistant. One press – answer the call, 2 – hang up.
The modes are switched as follows:
1 short press: Hybrid ANC On/Ambient Mode
Hold: Ambient Mode/Hybrid ANC Off
Active hybrid noise cancellation is beyond praise. Near an open window – all extraneous sounds are cut off. During rush hour, all transport is cut off, as if you are standing at the window at night. This is the first time I’ve encountered Ambient Mode. According to the information I found, this mode allows you to “enjoy music and at the same time hear certain sounds of the environment.” So it is, we get a certain average version.
The outer part of the cups is covered with a metal insert with “SuperEQ” applied. Faux leather earpads with soft foam padding. Ears will definitely sweat in hot summer weather, the lack of ventilation is to blame. The label of the left and right channels is applied on a special white fabric mesh, which, in turn, covers the plastic grille. The bowls are movable, they adapt to your head. Earpad hole: 4 x 5 cm.
The headband is reinforced with a metal plate. The inside is covered with leatherette, under which a soft filler is hidden. The plastic part of the headband is matte.
Confuse the inscriptions “Be Free – Be Young” on both sides. The height of the headband is manually adjustable. Headphones can lose their predetermined position since the fixation of the headband here is not the most rigid.
Built-in battery capacity 380 mAh. The battery lasted 42 hours and 40 minutes in wireless mode (the volume is above average, all additional modes were disabled). It took a few seconds to connect to the sound source, for pairing you need to hold the power button for about 5-6 seconds. In the Bluetooth connection settings, I was able to select the AAC codec (Redmi Note 7 smartphone).
There is voice acting: the maximum and minimum volume, the set mode, on / off, pairing, and much more are announced.
What else:
- battery charges 2.5 hours
- the signal is excellent, no blades at the declared working distance (one or two walls)
- minimum delay when watching videos
- slightly more noticeable lag in games
- the plastic buttons are fitted properly, they do not rattle
- Headphones sit comfortably on the head, do not press
- microphone quality – average scall
Sound
The headphones are quite bassy, the nature of the sound is darkened. The volume margin is decent, I can’t listen to music at the maximum value. The noise reduction system practically does not affect the overall flow. Compared to the OneOdio A30 headphones, there is no bass drop here. Let me remind you, OneOdio A30 cut the low-frequency range in the active noise reduction mode, pushing the middle and high frequencies forward. The imaginary scene is far from ideal, I see no reason to compare this model with some cool headphones from famous brands. The stage is intimate, slightly less than average in width and depth. At the top, it feels like there is a small peak in the region of 10 kilohertz. However, this peak is insignificant, the tops remain comfortable and soft anyway.
Bass is everywhere, the low-frequency range is pumped in earnest. The main emphasis is on the deep layers, the bass in rare cases can crawl a little into the mids. The middle is musical, smoothed, and voluminous. The wired version gives a minimal increase, the sound quality does not really change. Headphones are generally undemanding to the quality of the material, listen to whatever you want. If we talk about genre restrictions, well-written classical, as well as instrumental music, is excluded. All other styles are up to the listener.
It turned out, let’s say, a “finished” version of OneOdio A30. Headphones for the price are excellent. I was impressed by the work of active noise reduction, and I was also pleased with the Ambient Mode (you can chat with someone without stopping playback). The problem with the drawdown of low frequencies is solved. From now on, all three modes have approximately the same amount of bass. I am pleased with the signal quality, autonomy, and assembly. You can find fault with the Micro USB connector, for not the most reliable headband adjustment. In general, I liked the headphones, I can recommend them for purchase. Thanks for your attention.
